Leading High-Performing Teams

The Business Institute developed and delivered a leadership programme focused on leading high-performing teams at VIVACOM. The programme achieved success through a combination of an animated training series, digital content, and practical work delivered both online and offline.

Goals

The main objective of the programme was to develop key leadership competencies for building high-performing teams at VIVACOM:
  • Leadership approaches for building and maintaining high levels of trust and collaboration within teams.
  • Enhancement of skills in conflict management, the facilitation of constructive discussions, and effective decision-making.
  • Increasing team effectiveness through genuine engagement and a focus on team goals and outcomes.
  • Developing leadership capacity among participants to build and manage teams that deliver sustainable results.

Target audience:
The programme was designed for an extensive group of several levels of middle managers at VIVACOM, who play a key role in achieving the organisation’s results through their teams.

Design

The programme was structured into several modules, based on Patrick Lencioni’s Overcoming the Five Dysfunctions of a Team model. Each module examined a specific aspect of effective team management through a theoretical framework, practical work, and interactive exercises. Key elements included:
  • Storification: An animated training series following the evolution of a team from low to high performance.
  • Digital content: Material that builds on and extends the elements of the five areas of team development model.
  • Interactive exercises and role-playing simulations: Designed to develop practical skills.
  • Practical tasks: Based on the participants’ real work, with an emphasis on applying the outcomes to team collaboration.
  • Progressive feedback: Provided both among participants and from facilitators to encourage individual and team development.

Results

The programme achieved significant positive changes in leadership practices and team dynamics, as reported by both the participants and organisational management. Key outcomes include:
  • Participants reported an improved understanding of their potential as leaders, as well as their role within team dynamics.
  • They enhanced their skills in positively influencing team dynamics and fostering an achievement orientation.
  • They acquired practical tools and approaches for building trust, encouraging constructive discussions, and managing conflicts, as well as for increasing engagement, accountability, and a focus on team achievements.
  • A foundation was established for long-term, sustainable effectiveness in the organisation’s leadership culture.
